How is this calculated?
This is a rough estimate, not a quote. It assumes a PG&E rate of about $0.40/kWh and roughly 1,500 kWh produced per kW of system per year, which is typical for the inland East Bay with reasonable roof orientation.
Under NEM 3.0, solar alone typically offsets well under the full bill because exported power earns far less than retail. Adding storage lets you use your own production during expensive evening hours, which is why the second number is higher.

Under NEM 3.0, the battery is where the savings moved.
In April 2023 California switched to NEM 3.0, and the credit for sending solar back to the grid dropped sharply. Exporting power is now worth a fraction of what it costs to buy it back in the evening.
So the question is no longer just “how many panels.” It is what you do with what they make. Storing your midday production and spending it during the expensive late-afternoon peak is where the money is — and it is why we talk about storage on nearly every job.

What areas do you serve?
We are based in Antioch and work throughout the East Bay, generally within about 100 miles. That covers most of Contra Costa County — Brentwood, Oakley, Pittsburg, Concord, Walnut Creek, Martinez, Danville, Discovery Bay — and parts of Alameda County including Livermore. If you are not sure whether you are in range, call and ask.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. NC Electric & Solar Inc. holds California CSLB C-10 (Electrical) license #1017350, and we are bonded and insured. You can verify the license yourself at the Contractors State License Board website — we would encourage you to check any contractor you are considering.
Do you do electrical work, or only solar?
Both, and the electrical side came first. We are a C-10 electrical contractor with 25+ years in the trade, which covers panel upgrades, EV chargers, troubleshooting, and general residential electrical work as well as solar and storage. It is also why solar projects that hinge on the electrical service tend to go more smoothly with us.
Will you sell my information to other solar companies?
No. We do not send automated texts or emails, and we do not resell inquiries as leads. If you contact us, you hear from us directly about your project and nothing else. This is unfortunately unusual in the solar industry, which is exactly why we say it out loud.
How does NEM 3.0 change whether solar is worth it?
California switched to NEM 3.0 in April 2023, and it pays significantly less for solar exported to the grid than the previous rules did. Solar still makes sense here — PG&E rates are high enough that offsetting your own usage is valuable — but the economics now favor using your own production rather than exporting it. That is why battery storage has become central to the conversation rather than an upgrade.
Can you work on a system another company installed?
Yes, including systems whose original installer has gone out of business. That is a significant share of what we do. We service and repair equipment regardless of who put it in.
How soon can you start?
Usually sooner than a national installer. Lower overhead and a local crew mean less time in a scheduling queue. What we cannot speed up is city permitting or PG&E's permission to operate — those are outside any contractor's control, and anyone promising otherwise is not being straight with you.
What does a quote cost?
Nothing. We come out, look at the actual job, and give you a written quote. If the electrical service needs work to support what you want, that goes in the quote up front rather than arriving later as a change order.
